200 caught in crackdown on Super Bowl sex traffickers

DOZENS of alleged sex traffickers have been arrested in New York before this weekend’s Super Bowl.

Congressmen claimed that visiting football fans could order underage prostitutes “like takeaway pizzas”.
Police and FBI agents detained more than 200 people accused of crimes related to trafficking women in advance of Sunday’s match, the biggest event in the US sporting calendar, said officers.

Campaigner calls for separate courts for sexual crimes and mandatory sentences

A leading campaigner in the field of sexual violence has called for the establishment of separate courts to allow for the fast-tracking of sexual assault and rape cases.

She has also called for more clearcut mandatory sentences for sexual crimes including automatic double-digit sentences for serious sexual crimes.

Mary Crilly, director of the Cork Sexual Violence Centre, says victims often have to wait for up to two years before the case is finalised.

Rise in children trafficked to NI

December 9, 2013

Since April 17 children that were brought into the country have been identified as potential victims of sexual or labour exploitation.

Department of Justice figures showed that 14 adults were also trafficked.

This compares to just two children in the previous financial year, they were rescued along with 14 adults.>>more
